Publish an episode

Publish an episode to your feed and website.

Publishing adds an episode to your RSS feed and podcast website, where the podcast apps you distribute to pick it up. It needs a free trial or a paid plan; on the Free plan, Publish Episode prompts you to start the trial. Before you publish, check commercial use and AI disclosure.

Publish now

  1. Open the episode in the editor and click Publish in the toolbar, then choose Publish to Podcast.
  2. Choose Publish Now, or Schedule for Later to schedule it. Turn on Auto download when finished to also download the file.
  3. Click Publish Episode to confirm.

If the episode has no audio yet, the dialog asks you to generate audio first, from Generate Audio in the episode details. You can also start from Publish Episode in the episode page’s menu.

If some lines have missing or out-of-date audio, an Export current audio? dialog appears first (see choose which audio to render). On a Private podcast, the dialog first asks whether to Make public or Keep private.

Your RSS feed and podcast website show the episode right away. Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube pick it up from your feed within about an hour, once you have submitted the feed. Publishing costs no credits, and each publish adds a record to the Exports tab.

Follow publishing progress

The dialog shows each step, and a progress bar when a new render is needed. During a render the script and timeline editors are locked (see editing while an episode renders). When it finishes, the episode shows the Published status.

If you edit during the render, publishing can still use that render and shows Published from an earlier version. Your later edits are not live until you update the episode.

Update a published episode

Click Edit Episode on the episode page, change the script, audio, or visuals, and generate audio for any new lines. Then click Publish, choose Republish to Podcast, and click Republish Episode. With no edits since the last publish, the row reads “No changes to publish since the last publish.”

Listeners get the new version as the same episode with the same publish date, and a scheduled episode keeps its time. Apps that already downloaded it may keep the old audio. Updating is free.

To swap in a finished audio file instead, open the menu on a published episode’s page and choose Replace audio, then upload an MP3 up to 250 MB. The episode link and publish date stay the same. Replace audio is offered only when the episode published as audio, not video.

Unpublish an episode

Open the menu on a published episode and click Unpublish Episode. It leaves your RSS feed and website and returns to Draft with its audio, script and Sources intact, and its original publish date is cleared. The RSS feed can take a few minutes to update, and apps that already downloaded the episode may show it until they refresh. Republishing is free, and an uploaded episode comes back with the same file.

A scheduled episode has no Unpublish Episode option; click Cancel Schedule to return it to Draft (see schedule episodes). To remove an episode from your library, delete it.

Publish video to your website

Publishing renders audio only by default. To also render video and show a video player on your website, choose Advanced from the podcast’s actions menu, turn on Publish Video to Website, and click Save (see podcast details). The setting affects future publishes for that podcast. Download Video renders video either way.
