Manage characters
Edit and share the Characters in your library.
Find a character
Your Characters are under Characters → My Library in the sidebar; an empty workspace opens on Explore instead. Each row’s Voice line shows the Voice description, or one of these labels:
- Voice Clone: a Voice cloned from audio samples, including through a guest invite. See Voice cloning.
- Guest Clone: a cloned-voice Character flagged as a guest. It becomes a Voice Clone when you promote an Episode’s hosts to the Podcast’s regulars.
- Voice unavailable: the provider withdrew the Voice. See Fix an unavailable voice.
Search matches a Character’s name, backstory or Voice, such as “British” or “Female”. It stays within the selected status but ignores the other filters.
Filters holds Status, Gender, Language, Accent and Voice type. Status defaults to Active; choose Archived or All to include archived Characters.
Edit a character
- Click Edit on the Character’s page, or Edit Character in a row’s actions menu, to open the AI Character Builder beside it.
- Change any field directly, or ask the builder for changes such as “make them older”. Each field saves when you leave it, and text you are typing is kept if the builder changes the same field.
- Click Save Character to return to the Character’s page.
Enhance beside Backstory and Personality & Style rewrites that field using the rest of the Character, its Voice and its avatar. Archived Characters cannot be edited; unarchive first.
To replace the avatar, click it or drag an image onto it, and the model sheet regenerates from the new image. To generate a new avatar, ask the builder.
Model sheet
The model sheet holds five views made from the avatar: Front, Three-quarter, Side profile, Back and Face close-up, generated once the avatar is ready. Videos use them to keep the Character consistent, and fall back to the avatar when a view is missing.
Each generated image, including the avatar, costs 7 credits; failed images are not charged. Without enough credits, nothing generates and the section shows Generate model sheet. A dialog shows the cost before any regeneration, and nothing starts if your workspace cannot cover it.
To change views, open Edit and use each view’s menu:
- Outdated views were made from an earlier avatar. Regenerate outdated remakes them all.
- Failed views: click Generate model sheet or the view’s Regenerate.
- Upload image, or dragging an image onto a view, is free, and uploads are never regenerated. Remove upload clears one.
- Regenerate on the avatar draws a new one and redraws every generated view. Regenerate all redraws every generated view.
Publish a character
Characters stay private to your workspace until an admin publishes them to Explore on the Characters page; members see Ask an admin to publish. The Published Characters section of the Terms of Service covers what publishing allows.
A Character needs an original image, a complete model sheet with all five standard views, and a Voice Library Voice. Characters with a cloned Voice cannot be published.
Open the Character, click Publish under Sharing, choose whether to Allow forking (other teams can make their own editable copy), and click Publish.
Jellypod checks every publication automatically, including every model sheet image. Most Characters list in Explore right away. A Character that may impersonate a real person, contain sexual or hateful content, or be someone else’s brand mascot is marked In review and lists once Jellypod staff approve it.
Edits stay private until you click Publish update, which appears with Unpublished changes under Sharing. Teams that added the Character use your latest published version for anything they generate next; content they already made does not change. A flagged update shows Update in review, and Explore keeps your current version until staff approve it.
Changing Allow forking affects future adds and forks. Teams that added a version that allowed forking keep the right to fork it.
Unpublish removes the Character from Explore. Nobody new can add it, and teams that already added it keep the last published version. Publish again relists it.
Add characters from Explore
Explore shows Featured Characters that Jellypod picked for your language, then the Community grid. Click a Character, then Add to My Characters. An added Character:
- Can be cast in Podcasts, Videos, Shorts and Voiceovers.
- Is read-only and follows its publisher’s latest published version.
- Makes content that belongs to you. You can publish it anywhere, and it stays yours if the publisher unpublishes the Character.
- Counts toward your plan’s Character limit while active; archiving it frees the slot. At the limit, adding opens the You’ve reached your character limit upgrade dialog.
When a Character allows forking, click Fork in Explore or Fork to edit on an added Character’s page. Jellypod copies the published version, with its own images, into a new private Character your workspace controls. A fork counts toward your Character limit, and your admins can publish it with its own Allow forking choice. Its page shows its lineage, such as Based on Nova by @Acme.
To report a Community Character in Explore, or a Character you added, open it and click Report, even after its publisher unpublishes it. Staff review reports and can remove a Character from Explore.
Archive or delete a character
Open the actions menu on the Character’s page or its row in My Library, select Delete Character or Archive Character, and confirm.
A Character used in existing content, or one that was published, can only be archived; unpublish a published Character first. Archiving hides it from Active and from pickers for new content, and keeps its scripts, media, Podcast assignments and Voice.
To restore one, set Status to Archived or All, then select Unarchive Character in its menu or on its page. Unarchiving needs a free Character slot under your plan limit (archived Characters use none) and a Voice that still exists. If the Voice is gone, the unarchive fails with a message saying so.
Fix an unavailable voice
Providers occasionally withdraw Voice Library Voices. Jellypod marks a Voice unavailable on its own when the provider reports it removed or audio generation with it fails. The Character then shows a Voice unavailable badge and alert, appears disabled in pickers for new content, and blocks generation with a message asking for a new Voice. A Podcast that already has it keeps it until you remove it.
To fix it, open the Character’s Voice section and choose a new Voice with Browse all voices, or ask the builder for a different one.
