Create a character

Create a Character to host your content.

Your plan sets how many Characters you can keep; see plan limits. At the limit, creating another opens the You’ve reached your character limit upgrade dialog, and archiving or deleting a Character frees a slot.

Use the AI Character Builder

1. Click Characters in the sidebar, then New Character. A blank draft opens, or your unfinished one.
2. Describe who you want in the AI Character Builder chat. Press Tab to use the suggested idea, or click + to attach sources such as notes or a document.
3. The builder fills in the name, tagline, backstory, and personality and style, picks a Voice, and starts the portrait. Edit any field on the right at any time.
4. Click Create Character. It needs a name.

Every change saves as it happens, but a draft stays out of My Library and host pickers, and off your Character limit, until you click Create Character.

The avatar generates in the background after you save, even if you leave the page; if it fails, click Retry on it. Each generated avatar costs 7 credits, and the Character’s model sheet generates from it once it is ready.

Create manually

The quick form opens from Use voice on the Voices page, or the person-plus icon on a top-pick card, with that Voice already selected. It also opens from New Character, the + beside the search field in host pickers for Podcasts, Episodes, Videos, Shorts, Voiceovers and Automations.

Create character saves it and opens its page. A Character made from a host picker is not selected; reopen the picker to choose it. The exception is an Episode host picker with no Characters, whose Create Character button adds the new Character as a host right away.
