Pronunciation Guide

Teach Jellypod how to say names and terms.

The Pronunciation Guide tells your Characters how to say names, brands and technical terms they get wrong. Rules apply across your workspace, to every Podcast and to Videos, Shorts and Voiceovers, the next time audio is generated.

How a rule works

Each rule pairs a word or phrase with a pronunciation written as Spelling, like “keen-wah” for quinoa, or as IPA, like “kiːnwɑː”. Jellypod generates the other form from the one you write. Voices that read IPA get the IPA form; every other Voice gets the spelling.

Rules ignore capitalization and match whole words only. A longer match wins over a shorter one inside it, so a rule for “York” doesn’t touch “New York”. Adding or editing a rule flags only the lines that use its word as needing new audio.

Open the guide

Click Pronunciations in the sidebar. The same guide opens as a dialog from Pronunciations in the script editor and in the narration editor of the video editor.

Add a pronunciation

  1. Click New Pronunciation.
  2. In Word or Phrase, enter the word to match, like “Quinoa”.
  3. Next to Pronunciation, choose Spelling or IPA and write it. Leave out IPA slashes.
  4. Leave Generate IPA for improved performance on, or turn it off if the IPA form sounds wrong for this word. Off, every Voice reads your spelling.
  5. Click Add Pronunciation.

If generating the other form fails, the rule saves with just your form.

Preview, edit or delete a rule

Click the speaker icon in Actions and pick a Character. The preview uses the form that Character’s Voice gets during generation. Characters whose Voice is unavailable can’t play a preview.

Click the edit icon to change the rule, or switch notation and write a new value to make that the source, then click Save. Jellypod regenerates the other form; changing only the word keeps both. Turning off Generate IPA for improved performance on a rule keeps its IPA form saved but unused. The delete icon removes a rule after you confirm.

Troubleshooting

A word is still mispronounced. Rules don’t change audio you already generated. Regenerate that block with Regenerate Audio. If it still sounds wrong, rewrite the rule in the other notation and preview it with the Character who speaks the line.

The IPA form sounds worse than the spelling. Edit the rule, turn off Generate IPA for improved performance, and save.
