title: Episode generation failed
description: Recover an episode that failed to generate.
---

A new [AI Podcasts](/podcasts-and-episodes) Episode's editor opens once its first generation voices at least one line. Until then, follow progress from its row on the Podcast page. For Videos, Shorts and Voiceovers, see [video generation failures](/video-generation-failures).

## Fix a failed generation

When generation fails or stalls, click the Episode's row to open the Generation failed dialog. It names the cause and, when you can fix it, adds a button:

- Choose a voice: a Character has no Voice, or its Voice is no longer available.
- Add credits: the account ran out of [Credits](/getting-started/understanding-credits).
- Review sources: a Source couldn't be processed. Replace or remove it in [Fix a source](/sources/what-are-sources#fix-a-source).
- Create a character: an imported script names speakers that aren't saved Characters.

Then click Retry generation. It appears on its own when the failure looks temporary, such as a script that couldn't be written or a run that stopped early. A run that stops reporting progress is marked failed automatically, so the Episode isn't left locked.

When the same request would fail again, such as wording the voice provider refuses or a script that can't be imported as written, the dialog offers only Close and explains why. Edit the wording or switch the Character, then create the Episode again.

## Fix lines that still need audio

If at least one line is voiced, the Episode succeeds: Jellypod keeps the audio and opens the editor, and each line it couldn't voice shows a highlighted Generate Audio button. If no line is voiced, the Episode fails.

The usual cause is the voice provider refusing the wording, so edit it or switch the Host on that block before clicking Generate Audio. See [speech blocks](/podcasts-and-episodes/using-the-script-editor#speech-blocks).

A failed regeneration in the open editor leaves the previous narration in place and highlights the affected blocks; click Regenerate Audio on each. See [Regenerate a line](/podcasts-and-episodes/regenerating-individual-segments).

## Charges

Credits are held when generation starts. If the Episode fails, the hold is released and you aren't charged. If it succeeds with some lines still needing audio, you pay only for the audio that was voiced. Regenerating audio is free within a [daily limit](/podcasts-and-episodes/regenerating-individual-segments#credits-and-the-daily-limit).

If you're still stuck, [contact support](/#get-help-and-support) with the Episode name and roughly when it failed.
